Kieran Miles had started the relationship with the woman in January 2019 and she became pregnant with their daughter in August, Mansfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday, February 19.

But by September, the relationship had become strained and the woman was spending more time with her mother and grandmother away from Miles, 23, of Ascot Avenue, Cantley, said Donna Fawcett, prosecuting.

The woman, from the Retford area of Nottinghamshire, had moved a lot of her possessions and Miles was being difficult about returning them.

On September 8 he called her about her possessions and ordered her to come and collect them, stating “This s*** is going to get real” if she didn’t, she said.

Shortly afterwards she saw Miles’ car come down the road and he climbed and and started shouting and swearing at her, before pulling a metal bar from his vehicle and started beating it.

Mitigating, Ian Pridham said that the couple had now reunited and were together bringing up their daughter, but Miles had been suspended from his role as a mental health worker.

“There was a lot of bickering going on in the background,” he said.

District judge Jonathan Taaffe gave Miles, who admitted threatening behaviour, a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £21 victim surcharge.

“Your focus should be on ensuring that your daughter has a happy life,” he said.
