G French Jewellers in Doncaster town centre - the scene of a daylight robbery.

The Doncaster jewellery shop raided by armed robbers last week was still closed yesterday as police continue their enquiries.

Gary French Jewellers in Baxter Gate was shuttered with a sign on the window saying ‘closed due to robbery’, with no indication when it will reopen.

Three masked men armed with a gun and machete entered the shop on Friday morning and grabbed a large quantity of gold before heading down Baxter Gate and through the Market Place in a Mercedes car which was dumped and set alight in Bentley.

There have been no arrests so far but enquiries are still ongoing, said a police spokesman.

“Officers would especially like to speak to anyone who may have seen a silver Mercedes being driven suspiciously around the Conyers Road or Ings Road area of Bentley. The Mercedes is believed to have been involved in the alleged robbery and was found by police on fire on Conyers Road.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting incident 284 of May 31.
