A family Facebook post posted after the grim discovery said “Thank you to everyone who shared our post about our cat. Unfortunately we have found her and she didn’t make it.

“We got her two years today which is devastating. But she had such an amazing life with our kids and other cats. Love you always Luna.

“Whoever hunts cats or sets dogs on cats around Scawsby or anywhere are complete scum. Cat owners be aware scum like this are out there.”

The incident comes just days after the body of a dead cat was found badly burned on a disposable barbecue in Doncaster.

The RSPCA has launched an investigation after the cat was found in an alleyway off Lincoln Road in Wheatley by a woman walking her dogs during lockdown.

Anyone with information about either of the incidents can contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.
