Doncaster car park used for sex shut down after security gates are installed
A Doncaster car park used for public sex has been shut down after security gates were installed.
Sandall Park has long been a haven for ‘dogging’ – people engaging in public sex – with the Wheatley park’s car park advertised on numerous sex websites.
But park bosses have had enough and security gates have now been installed to stop people from using the car park at nights.
A spokesman for Friends of Sandall Park, the volunteer group which looks after the park, said they had worked in conjunction with Doncaster Council and security firm Prosec to close off the car park, which is also a haven for other anti-social behaviour.
She said: “This has taken much discussion with the council and with Prosec who have very generously offered to close the gates at night and open them again in the morning. The cafe car park gate will also be closed.
“This is to prevent all the unlawful activity in the car park and the copious amounts of rubbish and other unpleasant debris that the volunteers and council have to clean up every morning. It will also bring security to the park.
“There will be signs erected stating at what times the car park will be locked and opened again.
"Should you be in an unfortunate position to have missed the deadline, Prosec UK will be on the end of the phone and you can request a special visit to let you out. Pedestrian access will be unaffected.
“Thank you very much Doncaster Council for being amenable to the installation, and huge thanks to Prosec UK for volunteering to open and close them - without that offer - we couldn't have had gates.”
One website described the car park as a ‘dogging heaven’ where people could ‘meet up with other doggers for great sex in Sandall Park.”
Another advertised the park as an open air sex hotspot, posting: “Both car parks at Sandall Park opposite KFC heading towards Doncaster.
"The smaller off the two carparks is best, predominatly gay dogging and always quite busy after dark.”
Littering has also been an issue, with KFC rubbish often left strewn across the car park.
