Dangerous Doncaster driver reached over 100mph while being pursued by police

A dangerous driver who reached speeds of over 100mph during a police pursuit has narrowly been spared from prison.

Marcus Guirguis, aged 39, of Farringdon Drive, New Rossington, Doncaster, was spotted driving without insurance before he accelerated away from a police vehicle, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing.Louise Reevell, prosecuting, told the hearing on January 5 how Guirguis’s Mercedes was seen by police being driven without insurance about 3.10am, on April 28, last year, on Plumtree Hill Road, near Staniforth, Doncaster, before it accelerated away and was pursued.

Mrs Reevell added Guirguis travelled to Kirkhouse Green at up to 90mph. She said he reached speeds of around 80mph as he turned into Lodge Lane and into Westfield Road, at Kirkhouse Green, before speeding towards Fishlake at over 100mph and reducing to 70mph.

Mrs Reevell said Guirguis headed towards Staniforth and returned to Plumtree Hill Road before he left the road at a junction and stopped on a verge where he was detained on the ground by an officer with a stun gun.

Guirguis pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop and to driving withour insurance.

Recorder Anthony Hawks recognised Guirguis has lived a “productive life” apart from one minor conviction.

He told Guirguis: “Dangerous driving is a very serious matter because, by it’s very nature, it causes danger to other road-users.”

Guirguis was sentenced to 12 months of custody suspended for 18 months with 100 hours’ unpaid work. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
