The dad of One Direction singing star Louis Tomlinson tried to kill himself in Cantley Park, Doncaster, it is reported.
The information was revealed as Troy Austin, who split from Louis’s mum when he was five, appeared before Doncaster magistrates charged with failing to provide a breath test after being arrested for suspected drink-driving.
He pleaded guilty to the allegation, reports the Sun.
It reports Joanne Lewis-Crookes, prosecuting, told the court police had been called in because of concern over Mr Austin’s well-being.
She said it was suspected he had gone off having borrowed a friends car to kill himself.
The court heard he was found smelling of intoxicants with a number of empty cans in the vehicle, and that he had brought to alcohol to pluck up the courage to kill himself.
The 46 year old was taken to hospital for treatment.
The case was adjourned for pre-sentencing reports.
Mr Austin is understood to no longer be in contact with Louis.
A South Yorkshire Police statement said: “Troy Austin, from Thorne Road, Doncaster, has been charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath and appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 19 August.
“Mr Austin, 44, was arrested by officers around 6pm on Tuesday 18 August at an area close to Cantley Park, Doncaster, where officers found him with his vehicle.”
