Convicted Sheffield armed-robber attacked fellow-inmate with a hot iron at Doncaster prison

Sheffield Crown Court heard on August 3 how prisoner Wayne Robinson, aged 35, formerly of St John’s Road, Sheffield, injured fellow-inmate Carl Corker as he went to get food from the servery around dinner time on February 10.

Hannah Walker, prosecuting, said: “He went to get food from the servery and went back to his cell and saw the defendant known as Robbie walk towards him holding an iron.”

Ms Walker added that Robinson grabbed Mr Corker and put the iron against his head with some force and caused excruciating pain and the complainant had to be taken to hospital with second to third-degree burns.

The incident related to another attack by others against the same complainant, according to Miss Walker, but Cheryl Dudley, defending, said Robinson cannot explain why he got involved or what the background was before he attacked the complainant.

Robinson, who is serving a 12-year sentence for robberies while carrying weapons, pleaded guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent after the incident on February 10.

Cheryl Dudley, defending, said things had been put in place for Robinson while he was in custody to address his offending and anger issues before he was sent back to Doncaster prison.

Ms Dudley added the complainant had suffered superficial injuries that would not be lasting.

Judge Peter Kelson QC sentenced Robinson to three-years of custody to run concurrently with his existing 12-year sentence which had been imposed in January.
