Child arrested for domestic assault during Doncaster day of action: police column

The arrest was part of action across Stainforth and Barnby Dun, carried out on June 11.

The Doncaster East neighbourhood policing team teamed up with external partner agencies and other police departments .At the beginning of the day, we arrested the 16 year old boy for domestic assault. He was later released under investigation after interview while we took advice from the Crown Prosecution Service. A 28-year-old male was also arrested from an address on Church Road for failing to attend court on the June 5.The Safety Camera Partnership ran speed checks on Church Road, near Long Toft Primary school, where six drivers will be receiving tickets through the post for speeding; the highest was doing 47mph in a 30mph zone. This was outside the school and is completely unacceptable. Local PCSOs also visited Long Toft Primary School where pupils had a talk on road safety. Pupils were asked to design posters on the issue, which were judged by David Moore, Mayor of Stainforth. The winning design will be made up as a large banner that will hang on the school fence warning drivers against parking on zig-zags outside the school.

PCSOs also did speeding checks at Station Road and East Lane – 206 vehicles were monitored and 30 were speeding.Later in the day, police licensing officer Andy Steele teamed up with some of our PCs, trading standards officers, a food inspector from environmental health, and Doncaster Council’s licensing department to check premises in the area selling food, tobacco and alcohol.

During the afternoon a man was arrested from an address in King George’s Court, Stainforth, by our violent crime reduction team, for a domestic assault for which he was later charged.We were also joined by officers on horseback who provided high visibility patrols.This was the first of many days we have planned to target specific areas across the East of Doncaster to provide positive action with our partners to tackle issues that affect the communities.

Looking at other parts of Doncaster East, we carried out major drugs seizures in Askern over the last month. Raids at Avenue Road and Tennyson Avenue uncovered 150 cannabis plants being grown at each location. A third raid, again on Avenue Road, found remnants of drug growing. In that area, we have also clamped down on off-road bikes illegally riding around Askern, Norton and Campsall, with one quad seized and a warning notice issued at Norton Three Lakes.

We executed a drugs warrant in Thorne last week which led to a man being arrested on suspicion of cannabis possession. He was later cautioned and a house closure warning notice will be served on the property owner.

I have also noticed an increase in residential burglaries reported in Thorne, where garages and sheds are being targeted - be vigilant and ensure these are well secured. In Moorends, crime remains low with no residential burglaries being reported for several weeks.

On June 19, we ran speeding operations due to public concerns, on Alexandra Street and Coulman Steet, Thorne.

In the Hatfield ward, we are continuing to try and address the issue of burglaries and theft from cars. We are looking for a suspect, but in the meantime, be safety conscious and do not leave valuables in your vehicle. We have seen some instances where bank cards have been stolen. We have also seen cases where someone has broken into a home and found car keys, with the vehicle then stolen. We suspect the properties were targeted for the cars, so consider hiding your keys and using your garage where possible.

We have also seen two family cars stolen after burglaries in Amthorpe, where there has been a spate of break-ins just off Doncaster Road, around Mansfield Crescent, Charles Crescent, Larch Drive and Chestnut Avenue. Most involve entry by forcing the back door or window.

Three people were arrested in Armthorpe on June 18 – all of them riding on the same stolen moped when they were stopped. It had been taken from outside a KFC restaurant.Finally, the North East Neighbourhood Team have now moved to Thorne from Stainforth.This will not affect our work or patrols and is simply a logistical decision based on the availability of suitable office accommodation.Please do come and meet me at one of our community engagement meetings or contact me via our Facebook engagement event – further details are on our website.
