Chief seeks views on police search powers

Residents in South Yorkshire are urged to give their views and share their experiences of police stop and search powers.

Shaun Wright, South Yorkshire police and crime commissioner, has launched a public consultation into the powers.

He said: “Stop and Search is an important tool in the armoury of the police to combat crime and to catch offenders.

“However, there have been concerns about whether police use the powers appropriately and fairly.

“I want to understand how local people in South Yorkshire feel.”
