A serial burglar who targeted three homes in Doncaster has been jailed.

John Mulvenna, 24, of no fixed address, was caged for 28 months after breaking into two houses in Cantley Lane, Bessacarr, and one in Nutwell Lane, Armthorpe, on Thursday, April 30, during the day while the owners were out.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how he was disturbed when one of the homeowners returned to find a car parked outside his house on Cantley Lane.

The car drove off and the victim called police.

Officers stopped Mulvenna nearby and found property stolen during the burglaries in the car, which had been abandoned.

He was arrested and charged with all three offences.

Mulvenna pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, May 22.

After the hearing, detective constable Chris Lindley said: “Mulvenna targeted homes while the owners were out and stole both valuable and sentimental items.

“The quick thinking of the homeowner who disturbed him allowed police to apprehend him nearby and ultimately bring him to justice.

“Burglaries can have a huge impact on victims and South Yorkshire Police is determined to arrest those responsible and put them before the courts.”
