BREAKING NEWS: Man arrested over cyclist’s A1(M) death

a MAN arrested in connection with the death of a cyclist killed on the A1(M) while competing in a race.

The 43-year-old cyclist who was taking part in an organised time trial was killed when his bike collided with a HGV.

Police have revealed this afternoon that a 42-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been interviewed and bailed pending further inquiries until a date in May.

The collision happened on the southbound carriageway of the A1(M) in Blyth at about 8.55am on Sunday, March 18.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash - close to the end of the A634 Spital Road slip road around a mile south of Blyth Services - to come forward.

The cyclist was from Leeds.
