Sheffield Crown Court heard on October 30 how Michael Jones, aged 47, of no fixed abode, visited his mother’s property on Windsor Road near Intake, Doncaster, after he had learned his father had died and he left after he was told to do so by his son.

James Gould, prosecuting, said: “The defendant had a tin of beer in his hand and he was requested to leave several times before he did.”

Mr Gould added Jones has been subject to a restraining order since 2003 and a further order was imposed in 2017 and he has previously committed 41 breaches of these orders.

Jones, who has 57 previous convictions including the 41 restraining order breaches, pleaded guilty to breaching the 2017 restraining order in September.

Richard Adams, defending, said Jones went to the property shortly after he had been released from prison and after learning his father had died.

Jones has had issues with drugs, according to Mr Adams, and after he was released from prison he was homeless because the accommodation he had been allocated had not been ready for him.

Mr Adams added that despite the defendant’s difficulties he has not fallen back into using drugs.

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC told Jones: “Way back in 2003 a restraining order was made relating to your mother and father. The backdrop to this is that you were at the time taking drugs and I dare say causing real problems for them.

"That order was renewed in 2017 and the order you breached was a crown court order made in that year. You were not permitted to go near their home. You have a deplorable record and I am told there are no less than 41 breaches of either the 2003 or the 2017 order.”

Judge Richardson sentenced Jones to eight months of custody.

He told the defendant: “You know better than anyone if you carry on going around to your mother’s home a judge is going to impose a very, very long sentence.”
