The 13-year-old seam bowling protege took the new ball for Bentley Colliery 2nd XI against Hensall in the Pontefract League earlier this month - and returned superb figures of 5-9 from six overs!

Her five victims, who were either caught or clean bowled, all batted in Hensall’s top six.

“Sophie is a very talented player, with a great attitude for the game,” said Bentley’s second team captain Tom Butterworth.

“She is a left handed medium pace bowler with the ability to swing the ball into a right-handed batsman a long way.

“She has played at Bentley since she was seven-years-old. Her older brother came through our junior system so she came down to watch and got involved from a young age.

“After Sophie impressed in the last few games, I decided to open the bowling with her,” he added.

“She came on and took a wicket in her first over and set the standard for everyone to follow, bowling six overs, taking five wickets for nine runs.

“Unfortunately we ended up losing the game by one wicket. However, as a club we took a lot of pride from Sophie’s performance as it was proof that our junior development plan is paying off.

“Along with Sophie we had eight other junior players in the team aged between 13 and 18.”

Sophie has recently been selected to play for Yorkshire girls’ under 13s.
