The Conisbrough youngster has been named in Team GB’s under-10s squad for the 2017 AAU Inline Hockey Junior Olympics, to be held in Corona in July.

Kidd, a pupil at Ivanhoe Junior School, is a regular in the crowd at Sheffield Steelers along with his ice hockey loving parents and joined the Sheffield Ice Hockey Academy at the age of six.

He also plays for Killamarsh Khaos juniors and, despite being a defender, finished last season as their leading goalscorer and also won the Players’ Player of the Year award.

Kidd was recently selected for GB’s ten-strong squad following a two-day trial for more than 50 young hopefuls.

The trip to the States is self-funded and his family have set up a fundraising page on the internet to help with costs.

His father Ryan said: “As a family we are incredibly proud of the dedication he shows towards playing a sport he just adores.

“It is the centre of everything he does and he is very passionate about being the best he can be.

“All the opportunities that he has have been by his own creation, he has chosen to train and miss family events.

“He really has sacrificed and put the team before pretty much anything and that commitment is now paying off. It is the reason he has this wonderful chance to do what many young athletes aspire to do, which is to represent his country.

“We are working very hard to make this happen for him and by hook or by crook he will be able do it but any help would be very welcome and greatly appreciated.”
