A fundraising concert in aid of The Minster Church of Saint George’s restoration fund is being held on 19th November, featuring internationally acclaimed tenor Martin Aelred and world music sensation Mishaped Pearls, with support from the Doncaster based South Yorkshire Police Male Voice Choir.
Martin will be performing a selection of the greatest operatic arias from world famous composers, old and new. His recent performances have included Las Vegas, New York, Switzerland, Rosslyn Chapel Edinburgh, and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Mishaped Pearls’ reputation as a mesmerising live band has spread like wild fire in the last year. Their music, which is a contemporary blend of classical, folk, world and pop melodies was described as “astonishing” by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson, in particular the “heart-stopping” vocals of mezzo soprano lead vocalist Manuela Schuette.
Concert organiser Eileen Myles said: “The Minster Church of Saint George stands in the heart of Doncaster, and is a monument to the history and heritage of the town. It’s something to be proud of. This is a wonderful opportunity for local people to support the Minster restoration, and to see world class musicians performing with the wonderful acoustics of this beautiful building.”
South Yorkshire Police Male Voice Choir will open the concert, starting at 7pm.
Tickets, advance £8, from The Civic Theatre www.doncastercivic.co.uk; 01302 342349 or from Doncaster Tourist Information; or £10 on the door.
