Commonwealth Games: Doncaster swimmer Jarvis Parkinson wins second silver medal

The 19-year-old, from Hatfield Woodhouse, medalled as part of Team England’s 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams.

He swims in his main event, the 200m Individual Medley, in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

“I’m happy with how it went,” said Parkinson, after yesterday’s second place finish in the 4x200m relay.

“I’m happy with walking out in front of 10,000 people and doing a best time.

“I’ve taken 4x100m as an experience, 4x200m as an experience, luckily enough I have a solid team around me to back me and help me get the two silvers I have got.

“If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I was. They carried me through it so I’m very happy.

“Now that I’ve got a taste of it I want the full meal now,” he added.

“That was just a starter. I’ve got the main course to come. (I’ve) got the 200 medley on Tuesday so using the experience on the relay to try and divert that into my individual.”

England split winners Australia and third-placed Scotland in both relays.

Parkinson is reigning British champion in the 200m Individual Medley.
