Recent figures revealed that although burglaries fell by 17 per cent in the 12 months to September last year, with 6,194 offences recorded, fewer than one in 10 burglars are caught in South Yorkshire.

PCC Billings said: “We need to improve detection rates, but let’s not lose sight of the good news - burglaries are down.”
