Clubbers invited to take a step back in time as top DJs are in the House

Two legends of dance music are set to share the decks in Sheffield when one of the country's most famous club nights arrives in the city.

Seb Fontaine and Tall Paul – two of the biggest names of ’90s house music – are set for headline sets when Cream Classics arrives in Sheffield.

Cream, a name synonymous with dance music since the ’90s, is a clubbing institution, famous for its long-standing weekly club night in Liverpool, numerous festivals, Ibiza residencies and albums and compilations.

Now it is on the road with Cream Classics, touring with its most popular resident and arriving in Sheffield on Saturday.

Tall Paul – 6ft 6in Paul Newman – helped define a soundtrack for a generation and will be digging through his record collection to take clubbers back to the heady days of dance and club culture, spinning some of the biggest dance anthems from the club’s history.

And he says he is enjoying the resurgence of classic ’90s house music.

He says: “I still like to play new music as well, that is very important to me.

“However, I’ve got lots of great music to delve into, although I try not to play the most obvious ones.

“A couple of productions have been going down well from yesteryear – the ‘Beachball’ one by Nalin & Kane is still very popular. I like to drop a few of those, but I don’t want to go through all the old bangers that everybody knows, I like to keep it a bit fresh.

“But people are looking back in time for music to have a good boogie to.

“I like to play the new stuff, even though I’m more famous for playing a certain era of music when I was in the production stage of my life.

“People are being introduced to so-called ‘classics’, not necessarily from a certain age group, but a younger age group are discovering it, which is very cool I think.

And Tall Paul is looking forward to being reunited with Seb, someone he has “lost count” of the times they have played together.

He says: “There was a little phase where we did a lot together, and it seemed to be what a lot of people were digging, but I’ve known Seb for a long time,

“I know his style, what he is going to play and we can work together quite well so I don’t mind it whatsoever.

“We usually gel quite easily when needed, and can give each other a bit of space when needed too, and we’ve had some fun over the years.”
