As part of Noise Action Week (May 19 to 24) North Lincolnshire Council is raising awareness of how noise nuisance can impact on peoples’ health and well-being in their homes.
The council is encouraging residents to be good neighbours and think about others. As well as raising awareness of how people can deal with noise nuisance.
Noise in the wrong place at the wrong time affects quality of life in neighbourhoods and can harm peoples’ health.
Surveys have found that: Two thirds of people are bothered by noise at home; a million people move each year because of noise; noise is the largest source of complaint to local councils.
Following a complaint the council will take certain steps to stop the problem. It has to ensure that it is a statutory nuisance, which means the noise is harmful to health and/or is causing an unreasonable and constant disturbance to your lifestyle.
If you are being affected by noise nuisance you can report it to the council by completing an online form (www.northlincs.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/environmental-crime/noise/noise-control) or by calling 01724 297000.

If you feel that you are suffering from noise nuisance, then we would always recommend that you try talking to your neighbour or business. It is often the case that many problems can be dealt with in a friendly way, and your neighbour or business may not even be aware they are causing a problem. However if you don’t feel this is the best option for you, don’t hesitate to contact us by using the online form or call 01724 297000.
Noise Action Week is coordinated by Environment Protection UK that works year round supporting the work of professionals in noise management.
