Sheffield’s own award-winning band Past Masters have put together their own tribute show, celebrating the music of the late, great Buddy Holly and the other American icons of rock ’n’ roll from the fabulous fifties.

The two shows performed by Buddy Holly and the Crickets at the City Hall on March 4, 1958 are part of local popular music legend, as they proved to be the one and only chance to catch the American star and his band in the city.

They also played two shows at the Gaumont Theatre, Doncaster, on March 17.

Fans who missed out and vowed to catch the next tour never got their wish, of course, when tragedy struck the young Texan.

Buddy Holly died at the age of 22 in a plane crash in a snowstorm in America on February 3, 1959. The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens were also killed.

The show features more than 40 timeless classics from the golden era of pop and rock ’n’ roll, including Buddy Holly’s most famous hits.

This climaxes with a recreation of Holly’s legendary 1959 Winter Dance Party tour with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.

Past Masters bring together a host of Sheffield’s most experienced rock ’n’ roll musicians.

Members have previously played with the likes of Dave Berry, The Daizies and Johnny Tempest & The Cadillacs.

The Past Masters say that their performance in the Memorial Hall tomorrow night promises to be “an unmissable show for rock ’n’ roll fans young and old”.
