Churchgoers’ marathon bible reading

DEDICATED churchgoers in Swinton are in for a few sleepless nights this weekend.

For they have pledged to read the Bible outloud non-stop for three days running!

Members of St. John’s Methodist Church hope to read all 1000-plus pages of the new international version of the holy book within 72 hours.

They will begin their Bible Marathon at 10.30am on Thursday, and aim to finish it by Sunday.

Numerous volunteers have come forward and pledged to read passages from the Bible at the pulpuit for 15 minutes each.

The event is being held to mark 400 years since the King James Bible was published.

Organiser Barbara Savage said: “It will be a challenge but I am sure we will be able to do it.

“It may be tiring in the middle of the night, but we will have a shift system in place so people will be able to rest their eyes.”

If anyone would like to come and listen the church will be open day and night.

Anyone who would like to read is asked to approach one of the stewards on duty.

It is free to attend and refreshments will be available.
