A WOMAN managed to get herself out of her home after a chip pan caught fire.

The blaze happened as the occupier, in her 50s, slept at her home in Halifax Avenue, Conisbrough.

The fire began accidentally last night just before 10.15pm and was out when crews from Edlington and Dearne arrived, a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed.

The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.
