Nick Fletcher, the Conservative MP for Don Valley, has urged people to keep in touch with people living near them as the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the world.

In a statement, he said people can ‘make a difference’ and said: “We are in unknown territory and we should follow what the professionals say but we can all help too.

“I therefore suggest that all of us call, text or email three neighbours the ones attached, next door, above or below or even opposite.

“Just to see if they are OK and if they need anything or may need anything.

“Even if you know they are OK this will not hurt, if you are in disagreement with them maybe this will help build bridges.

“We are all in this together and nothing will help more than an act of kindness.

“So do it today and do it everyday from now on. Being kind feels good and helps us as much as our neighbour.

“Please share on every group you are attached to, you can and will make a difference.”

There have been no officially confirmed cases of coronavirus in Doncaster, although several media outlets have reported two cases.

Doncaster Council’s website lists that there are no current cases.

Nationally, there have been 1,391 cases of coronavirus and 35 deaths.
