The fair coincides with National Apprenticeship Week aimed at young people considering a job, an apprenticeship, a traineeship or work-based learning after leaving school.

More than 300 people attended last year and those visiting this year will get the chance to meet representatives from more than 30 businesses, including training providers, the armed forces, the job centre and other support organisations.

Members of the council’s Skills Made Easy team will also be present to offer advice on what opportunities are available.

Doncaster Mayor Ros Jones and Nuala Fennelly, cabinet portfolio holder for children, young people and schools, are attending to meet providers, businesses, prospective apprentices and parents.

Mayor Jones said: “It is always a pleasure attending the annual Apprentice Fairs and having the opportunity to talk to the young people about their aspirations and also local businesses about how they can help them take the first steps on their chosen career path.

“I very much recommend that people come along to the event and see what’s on offer.”

She added: “One of my mayoral pledges has always been to create more apprenticeship opportunities in the borough and I was very pleased with figures released in October which showed that Doncaster is now one of the national leaders for the number of people starting apprenticeships.”

Doncaster Council has also launched a new apprenticeship prospectus, which will be available at the event.
