The authority is hosting a celebration of Carers’ Rights Day and the launch of the Doncaster Carers’ Strategy at Doncaster Racecourse between 11am and 2pm. Here residents can find out information about local services, financial entitlements and practical support. There will be performances and fun interactive activities.

There are an estimated 33,000 carers in Doncaster with around 14,377 providing at least 20 hours care per week. The new strategy aims to improve support to carers across the borough and has been developed in partnership with carers themselves, health and social care professionals as well as third sector groups.

Councillor Glyn Jones (pictured), cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Equalities, said: “Carers Rights Day is about bringing organisations across the UK together to help carers in their local community know their rights and find out how to get the support they are entitled to.

“That’s the aim of our new strategy, which for the first time in Doncaster has been developed in partnership with a broad range of interested groups.

“Carers make a huge contribution day in, day out and we want to make sure that they get the best support available to carry out that role and maintain their own health and wellbeing at the same time.”
