Careers advice sources for students in North Lincolnshire

The two academies joined the council’s Careers Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) team to recognise the work they do for young people.

For young people, who are leaving school or college this summer, getting good quality independent and impartial careers information advice and guidance has never been more important.

A council spokesman said careers guidance from a qualified careers adviser allows young people to explore their ideas, the reasons behind their choices, explore the routes in these choices, and suggest some alternative or new ideas.

They added that it would lead to a plan of action on what needs to be done next and sources of information to look at and was all designed to help young people make informed choices about their future.

The spokesman further added: “There are lots of other sources of careers information that young people can access as well including The National Careers Service https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/ and Lincs4u: www.lincs4u.co.uk/ websites.

Other sources of information on jobs and education/training can be obtained from colleges, universities or employers. Young people can also get advice from people who know them well, such as teachers and parents about what career might suit them.

The council’s team of qualified careers advisers work with young people aged 13 to 19 (and up to 25 years-old for those with learning difficulties and disabilities) in schools and colleges. And with young people who have left education and are not in employment, education or training (NEET) through a drop-in service. The team provides careers guidance to young people in secondary schools.
