Wage rates on the up

THE National Minimum Wage for workers aged over 21 and for some apprentices has increased slightly starting this week.

The over 21 hourly rate has risen from £6.08 to £6.19. For apprentices aged under 19 or over 19 and in their first year of a placement, it has increased from £2.60 to £2.65.

The rates for people aged 16-17 and 18-20 remain the same at £3.68 and £4.98 respectively.

Employers are legally obliged to pay at least the minimum rate irrespective of any agreement from a worker to accept less.
