A waste management firm has opened a new £1 million base in Rotherham that will introduce ‘pay as you weigh’ to the region.
Lili Waste, which is headquartered in Hull, has unveiled a new site in Parkgate which operates an innovative pay-as-you weigh scheme as part of its plan to encourage ‘zero-waste to landfill’ - by only charging for what is actually thrown away.
The development has created about 10 new jobs and launched on November 16.
Lili Waste will initially deliver waste management and recycling services to 300 Sheffield businesses, carrying out 750 lifts per week. The firm will also look to expand into Rotherham, Barnsley, Worksop and Doncaster.
The moves comes just a year after the company launched in Hull and set up a second base in Leeds.
Matt Miles, owner and managing director, said: “Our success in servicing the Hull and Leeds regions has allowed us to expand further and customer demand in the area meant that expansion into Sheffield was the next logical step.
“We already have a great relationship with many businesses here, not least Ron Hull, and we’re looking forward to bringing our waste management solutions to even more businesses across this great county.“
The company provides waste management services in the industrial, commercial and retail sectors.
Mr Miles believes ‘pay as you weigh’ could be a ’tipping point’ in people’s attitude to achieving ‘zero waste’.
He added: “The charging method for waste collection is based on the weight of waste collected. You therefore only pay for the amount of waste you generate. So it pays to think about what you’re throwing away.”
