a DONCASTER-based foods company is creating new job opportunities thanks to a meaty growth in business just in time for the summer barbecue season.

A number of jobs will be created at Paragon Quality Foods thanks to funding support from HSBC’s Commercial Banking team.

The business - one of the UK’s largest suppliers of burgers, doner kebabs and marinated chicken to the restaurant and fast food sectors - is celebrating the redevelopment of its factory.

The changes were achieved after it received a financial package in excess of £3 million provided as part of its move to HSBC.

The factory, in West Moor Park, Armthorpe, is now one of the most modern and technologically equipped in Europe.

The redevelopment was initiated in order to meet growing demand both within the UK, where it services wholesalers, restaurant chains and pub companies, and overseas, with ten per cent of the business’ turnover achieved through export to countries across Europe such as Cyprus, France, Germany and Spain.

Turkish-born Metin Pekin established the award winning UK meat production business in 1994 after seeing a gap in the food market for high quality meat products during his years as a chef.

Despite being a relatively young company, the business has experienced impressive and steady growth and currently employs 100 plus people, with a turnover of £25 million.

This latest development will allow the company to expand its workforce.

Metin Pekin, director and founder of Paragon Quality Foods, said: “Thanks to HSBC’s support, we are better placed to maximise our growth in the coming years and move towards our goal of further increasing our share of the UK market in our sector.

“We are excited to enter the next phase of growth of the business while continuing to focus on providing ethical and quality meat products to our customers.

“The team at HSBC has worked closely with us in order to support our ambitious plans to expand on a global scale.”

A key focus for the business is on providing high quality 100 per cent UK and Irish sourced meat as the business sets its sights on expanding its UK blue chip customer base.

Martin Lyons, area commercial director for HSBC in North Lincolnshire and Doncaster, said: “Paragon Quality Foods is a strong and innovative business which has regularly been recognised for its high quality UK sourced products and innovative business approach – including being shortlisted for HSBC’s own Business Thinking Awards in 2011.

“The management team has been strategic in adapting its business model to take advantage of both domestic and overseas opportunities for market penetration. Alongside this, they have been incredibly tactical in maintaining the highest industry standards to attract top class customers across Europe and become a well known, trusted brand in the industry.” Visit
