Bucky's Blog: Relegation is a scary, scary thought

It has turned into quite a situation for Rovers, especially given the timing of our win-less run.

All of the other teams around us at the bottom seem to be picking up points all of a sudden. The game against Shrewsbury this weekend becomes absolutely massive.

It’s now a situation where a point just won’t do it. We have to get back to winning ways, and take the opportunity to knock another side back down a peg whilst we’re at it.

If you look at the club, and how we were playing only a couple of months ago, the thought of relegation is honestly scary.

The crowds that would be coming through the doors if we go down would be horrible.

I have said I don’t think we’ll go down, so too have the players, so too has manager Darren Ferguson. But with every week that goes by it’s looking more and more realistic.

It’s another two-game week this week and I’d take four points from six against Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe. How quickly we’ve dropped in the league is scary, but four points in four days would put us nicely back afloat.

Ferguson mentioned that we have 13 cup finals now and he’s right, that’s exactly how it is.

The manager is unhappy with the form of a few players and rightly so, and he’ll be picking players based on their performances and not reputation.

One can only assume James Coppinger still isn’t right to play, because I think seeing him in the ranks would serve as the huge boost that the team needs right now.

I do wonder which areas of the squad Ferguson views as not being strong enough. I’ve watched him coaching and I know he’s a good coach, but he’s still working largely with someone else’s squad.

Let’s just make sure when he’s rebuilding in the summer it is ahead of another League One season and not a League Two campaign, because that would be an absolute disaster.
