Bucky's Blog: Am I the only one thinking we'll get out of this?

I seem to be the only person who thinks we're going to get out of this at the minute.

But I think we will.

I was so fed up on Saturday because we were so unlucky not to get anything out of it.

It was sickening, after the way we improved and were the better team, to lose yet again. But that’s just what happens when you’re down there. That’s how it goes.

We definitely merited something from it. We finally got that first goal that everyone has been talking about. It felt like one step closer to turning things around, but we really have to hold out.

It’s amazing that we’re now in a relegation double-header over the Easter weekend considering where we were in January. The players have only got themselves to blame though.

We need at least four points from six now. Of course, we’d like to go and get six, but we just need something at Colchester.

Ideally we’ll beat Blackpool, given their league position. If we win that game, it puts a nail in their coffin. We need to go out at the Keepmoat and take the game to them.

Looking at the game tomorrow, I wonder if it would be wise to chop and change, or stick with a similar line up to last weekend? The players should take confidence from being the better side, but now it’s time to show some grit and get over the line.

I wonder too if Darren Ferguson will be tempted to throw Liam Mandeville back into the side? He probably merits it, I think he deserves a run in the team. Give him three or four games.

It sounds like a gamble, but is it? If the players that are playing aren’t scoring, will he be able to contribute more, overall? From what I’ve seen he is an excellent young player, and when is he meant to get experience? I know Ferguson doesn’t seem to worry about a player’s age.

This current squad is not Ferguson’s team. He’s yet to have a period when he can add his own players to his squad, so I think any fan judging him now is harsh. I think you have to give a manager a year in a job.

Let’s just make sure that when he does mark a year in the job, and we do judge how well he’s doing, that we’re not playing in League Two.
