Brave Liam is a hot-shot for Doncaster Rovers

Four-year-old Liam, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia last September, got to live out every Rovers fan’s dream by having a kickabout with his heroes at half time.

The plucky youngster even managed to score a few goals in front of the delighted crowd who were chanting his name.

Liam’s mum Lyndsey said it was a night their family would never forget.

She said: “I honestly can’t thank everyone at Doncaster Rovers enough for their hospitality and kindness.

“Liam has not stopped smiling. He had the most amazing time. To watch him run on the pitch and score goals with the players is something we, as a family, will never forget.”

Liam and his family are huge Rovers fans and go to the Keepmoat regularly to watch home games.

As well as enjoying a kickabout and mascot duties, Liam was also given the shirt worn by Harry Middleton, his favourite player, during the FA Cup match against Stoke City. Harry signed the shirt and presented it to Liam at Tuesday night’s game.

“After the game, Liam fell asleep with his signed Harry Middleton shirt – it’s made his year,” Lyndsey added.

Marketing and communications manager Ryan Murrant said: “This is exactly what we as a club are about. Everyone was behind it and we’re very proud that us and the fans could make it so special for him.

“Everyone at Doncaster Rovers would like to wish Liam all the best in his recovery and look forward to seeing him back at the Keepmoat soon.”

Rovers lost 2 – 1 on the night.
