Occupying the WBC champion spot is Mexican Julio Ceja, the man Gavin’s brother, Jamie, beat to become world ruler for the first time.

And the 29 year old is one step away from making it a family double by beating Ceja and becoming world ruler.

But it is a big step, admits Rotherham trainer Dave Coldwell. “There’s no doubt he brings power.

“His record on paper looks a daunting one so our priority is making sure we’re up to the task and that Gavin goes in there with the best preparation possible and the right tactics to get the job done.

“He’s moving up in class now and that means he’s got to work harder than ever. He’s getting close to where he dreams of being so now he must go out there and deliver.”

Coldwell added: “Every challenge that Gavin has encountered he’s always answered in emphatic style. He deserves to be one fight away from a world title shot but this is where things get serious and the tests get harder.

“If he listens and applies himself in training like I know he can then he can get the rewards and big fights.”

Luke Campbell MBE and Gary Sykes will meet in an all-Yorkshire affair on Kell Brook’s undercard at the Sheffield Arena on March 26.
