CHANGES are being made to tackle disabled badge fraud and misuse.
Blue Badges - available to disabled motorists - are being modernised following a national consultation with users, local authorities and other bodies.
The badge scheme will be made and issued centrally for the whole country with assessments for people on a local level from January 1.
Customers will be able to apply for a badge online when they log on to www.direct.gov.uk
The badges will also have improved security features and be registered on a national database.
People have also been warned that misusing a Blue Badge can lead to a £1,000 fine.
