The fire saw flames leaping from the cardboard store at the Co-op supermarket on the junction of Genoa Street and Adwick Road over the weekend.

Three fire crews, from Dearne, Edlington and Rotherham fire stations stations, were called to the scene at 1.10am on Sunday to deal with the incident. The crews left the scene at 2.15am, spending just over an hour at the location.

But the main supermarket retail area at the shop area was undamaged by the blaze, and the store was able to re-open for trade as normal today.

Some damage is understood to have been done to the canteen area at the building though, and workmen have been at the premises today carrying out repairs as a result of that damage.
