Belton barrows lined up for September

Get ready to roll . . the rescheduled Belton Barrow Race will take place on Sunday September 14.

The event will be staged at the Crown Inn, Belton, with the first race at 1.30pm. Competitors are asked to register at 1pm for adults and veterans and half an hour before the race for the children’s races.

The race schedule is as follows: 1.30pm veterans age 50 plus, 2.15pm adults’ race age 18 plus, 3pm children’s race age 14-17 years, 3.45pm children’s race age 10-13 years, 4.15pm children’s race age 5-9 years, 4.30pm adult and child, 4.45pm winners’ presentation.

It is possible to enter on the day. Barrows are provided for teams of two. There is a £2.50 entry fee for the adult and veterans races, with cash prizes.

Belton Barrow in Bloom was judged last month by Coun Liz Redfern. Andrew Newton’s beautiful display was placed first with Steve Adams second. In joint third place were Belton Primary School Gardening Club and Kira Yates. Belton Barrow Race Committee organised a high tea for the over 60s that was well attended with entertainment by John Dodd and Eric Cooke.
