Barnsley Green Party opposes PSPO plans

Barnsley’s Green Party have opposed plans for public space protection orders in the town over concerns they could criminalise some of the most vulnerable residents.

Barnsley Council have recently launched a public consultation into PSPOs - a tough new law designed to equip councils with powers to tackle yob incidents, making it a criminal offence to behave in a way that ‘causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress’ to people. A spokesperson for the Green Party said the PSPOs are ‘vague and carry disproportionate fines’.
