Awards £10,000 total kickstarts Pride fundraising

A grand sum of £10,000 was raised at the recent Lex’s Legacy Pride of the Isle Awards, but other events are set to boost the sum even further.

To add to the coffers for selected Isle charities and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, a Ladies’ Night will take place in Haxey Memorial Hall on February 27, with tickets now on sale costing £15.

Sponsor forms and online donation sites will be available soon for two further Pride of the Isle fundraising events. Former Isle man Tim Webb of Doncaster will do his annual Scarborough to Whitby walk, with willing volunteers, along the Cleveland Way in June. And later in the year in October, Mel Lewis will do the Blacklight Run for the charity.

It will be Tim Webb’s fifth annual effort. He said: “As some of my friends know I grew up in the Isle of Axholme, so that is one reason I decided to pick a charity there for this year’s walk. And there is no better charity than Lex’s Legacy Pride of the Isle. Lex was such a strong brave boy and I’m sure you will agree that this is a great cause for this year’s walk.”

Chair of Pride of the Isle, Leesa Sharpe, said: “A bigger marquee is booked for next year’s Awards. Four hundred tickets will go on sale in April, and will be based on first come first served. They are to be sold as a table of 10 and a deposit of £100 will secure your table.” Nomination forms are available now, either by downloading from the website or clicking on the contact form www.prideoftheisle.co.uk

Leave your name, the person you wish to nominate for an award, a short explanation and a contact number.

A £5000 donation will go to Bluebell Wood and £5000 across the Isle of Axholme from the January Awards.
