Aviation festival ready for take-offÂ

A full day of interest and entertainment at North Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Festival is set to go ahead on Sunday, September 30, at Skydive Hibaldstow, after the previous date was postponed due to bad weather.

The story of Northern Lincolnshire's heritage from World War One to present times will be told throughout . It will celebrate the heroes from this area and those who came to fight alongside the British forces in both world wars.

Live music from Lady Kingsnorth and George Formby Experience will add to the atmosphere. F ood, drink, charity and trade stalls will be plentiful, and will include books, wine, clothing and much more on sale.

A memorial ceremony is planned at 3.30pm. This is one of eight such ceremonies planned for each airfield across Northern Lincolnshire.

It is a unique tribute for the RAF 100 commemoration, remembering the roles that personnel of these airfields played in both World War One and World War Two, in particular those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage, Hibaldstow History Group, North Lindsey College, Lincolnshire Aviation Society and RNAS North Killingholme will exhibit.

Visitors can have a go in the Spitfire cockpit simulator and view the range of classic cars and wartime transport on display.

Skydives will take place, and children will be well catered for with activities throughout the day. Crafty fun will be provided by 20-21 Visual Arts Centre.

Hibaldstow Astronomical Society will promote the science of astronomy with a display of telescopes,  allowing safe viewing of the sun.

The festival, from 10am to 4pm, is free entry,  but donations are welcomed. All proceeds go to the Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Forum.

Coun Elaine Marper, cabinet member for public participation and culture, said: 'North Lincolnshire has a really interesting aviation history that people can explore.' 

The event is supported by the council, Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Forum and Skydive Hibaldstow.
