Askern 10k set for big turnout

Wednesday will see the 30th running of the hugely popular Askern 10k race.

But there will no option for entries on the night, say organisers Askern & District Running Club.

“We were engulfed with late entries on the night last year and the numbers overwhelmed us,” said spokesman Mick Collingwood.

“We set a limit of 700 entries this year because we felt that the course doesn’t lend itself to any more than that.

“Not only are we full up but we’ve had to turn people away.”

He added: “Looking at the top end of the field no-one sticks out and I’m expecting it to be an open race.

“We have got several former winners running but they are from a few years back, including Dave Tune, and I can’t see any of them contesting the honours in the main race.”
