Arsonists target sheds, wheelie bins and cars in spate of fires across South Yorkshire

Arsonists left a trail of destruction during a night of targeted attacks on buildings and vehicles across South Yorkshire.

A caravan was set on fire in Rowena Drive, Thurcroft, at 7.15pm last night. Firefighters from Maltby and Rotherham Central stations spent more than an hour tackling the blaze. Nobody was injured.

At around the same time, firefighters from Parkway Station spent 45 minutes dealing with a shed blaze that had been started deliberately outside a home in Smelter Wood Road, Stradbroke.

Arsonists dragged a wheelie bin into a field off Manor Laith Road near Park Hill just before 8pm and set it on fire. Sheffield Central Station firefighters were called out to extinguish the blaze.

Yobs also set fire to a VW Passat off Carr Road in Edlington at 2.20am this morning. Edlington firefighters dealt with the blaze.

Firefighters from Adwick and Doncaster Central stations were called out to tackle a blaze to a pile of litter off Ridge Road in Highfields at 4.25am. A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said this one was started accidentally by a discarded cigarette butt.
