Arsonists busy across the Dearne

Grass and field fires started deliberately over the weekend kept firefighters busy in the Dearne.

Two fires were dealt with in fields off Deightonby Street at Thurnscoe, at 11.40pm on Saturday night and 8.40pm on Sunday night. Another was at School Street, Thurnscoe, late Sunday afternoon.

Dearne and Cudworth crews attended and spent about an hour dealing with each incident.

A grass fire at Broom Close, Wath, at 7.40pm on Saturday evening and another at Mitchells Way , Wombwell, last night at 6.40pm, were put out by Cudworth firefighters.

All the fires were cases of arson, said a South Yorkshire Fire Service spokeswoman.

Anyone who sees a person or people acting suspiciously is asked to ring the emergency services or Crimestoppers with information, and can remain anonymous.
