A police hunt is underway for an armed robber who struck at a Crowle supermarket.

The crook, who was armed with a knife and wearing a balaclava, threatened a woman working at Tesco Express on Crowle High Street at 9.20pm last night.

She handed over cash from the till and the robber fled into Cross Street.

A police search was mounted, with the police helicopter involved, but the robber could not be found.

The offender was white, 6ft 2ins tall, with light brown hair which was spiked at the front.

He was pale, had acne and wore a brown padded jacket, with a paler brown top half and arms and black tracksuit bottoms.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: "A man believed to be armed with a knife stole a quantity of cash from Tesco Express on Crowle High Street.

"The suspect is said to have approached the store, put on a full face balaclava and approached a female member of staff who was working on the till.

"He then threatened the woman and demanded cash, which she handed over and he left the store.

"It is believed he then turned left into an alley, cut through an open gate and into Cross Street.

"Despite an extensive search by the armed response team and police helicopter, the suspect has not been traced."
