The pair of Kunekune pigs were being rehomed to an animal sanctuary near Gainsborough – but when the new owners arrived at their destination, they found the trailer on the back of their vehicles was empty.

The animals – one of which is thought to be pregnant - had been picked up earlier from Goldthorpe and had travelled through the Doncaster area en route to Gainsborough.

Sharing news of the disappearance on Facebook, a spokesman said: “Today from Goldthorpe we were rehoming these two kune cross pigs, one of which is quite possibly pregnant.

“We never stopped in our journey other than at junctions or lights. But on arriving home our pig trailer was empty.”

The pigs are not tagged but slap marked – painted with identification markings.

The post added: “If anyone hears of two pigs being found please let us know.”

It is not clear if the pigs were removed from the trailer by others, or escaped when it was at a standstill.

The trailer passed through Goldthorpe, Spotborough, Wadworth, Tickhill and Bawtry before heading to Gainsborough.

Anyone with information about the incident, or the whereabouts of the pigs can contact Sunflower Park via their Facebook page HERE or on email at
