FIRE crews were called to a fire in a house at a troubled part of Goldthorpe yesterday evening.
The rubbish blaze, believed to have been started deliberately, was in a derelict property at Frederick Street.
It was quickly extinguished by the fire service, without the need to evacuate people from adjoining homes.
Vandalism, theft, anti-social behaviour and fires within a growing number of neglected properties are troubling residents around the area.
Barnsley Council and local police are currently working to improve the situation by tracking down and liaising with landlords and increasing police patrols.
Last week a fire that spread among three derelict properties on Main Street, Goldthorpe, was also blamed on arson.
