Anger at missed Doncaster bin collections

A woman who has had her bins emptied on the correct day only three times since Christmas says she is tired of being '˜fobbed off' by the council.

Barbara Hill, of Hatfield Lane, Armthorpe, said she and her husband Douglas are fed up of taking their bins out punctually each week only for them to be left unemptied.

“Our bins should be emptied every Thursday, but since Christmas they have only been emptied on time three times. We keep calling up every time it happens. We have even been in to the council offices to speak to somebody and we just keep being fobbed off. When we went in to the office they just gave us a number to call to make a complaint.”

Mrs Hill said binmen have also failed to collect rubbish on time from her neighbour, Norma Gill, repeatedly since their bin collection day was changed several months ago.

“When the bin collection day was on a Wednesday we had no problems. At first they missed the green bin collection so we called them and they came and emptied it, but then it started with the black bins.

“We call up two or three times a day, week in, week out. They tell us that somebody will come and collect it on Friday. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes, our bins are out there for a week.

“Luckily, there’s only two of us and we don’t make much rubbish, otherwise the bin would be overflowing.”

A spokesperson for Suez, the firm which handles the town’s bin collections, said: “We successfully complete over 99 per cent of collections each and every week, but we appear to have fallen short on a small number of occasions with this particular property.

“We have since highlighted the address with our collection crews to avoid any further missed collections and would like to apologise for any inconvenience.”

Residents can report missed collections to the council by visiting www.doncaster.gov.uk or calling 01302 736000. Suez crews aim to empty bins within 24 hours of receiving a report.
