All Black’s son baptised at Epworth church

On Sunday September 20 Finau ‘Etoni Gabriel Taumoepeau, the son of the New Zealand All Black rugby player Saimone Taumoepeau (currently playing rugby in France) and his wife Lu’isa, was baptised at the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, Epworth.

This is the latest in a series of baptisms of Tongan babies who return to Epworth in recognition of the fact that the founder of Methodism, John Wesley, was born there, and Mr Wesley sent out his missionaries to Tonga and Fiji, and that they gave the gospel and Christ to those islands.

Rev David Leese who officiated said: “To welcome Tongan families into our worship on such an occasion as this emphasises the command to ‘Go out into all the world’.

“We celebrate that our forefathers in the faith did, and that the harvest is still being reaped.”
