Rovers suffered the agony of a fourth straight defeat to big city neighbours Sheffield United - a third successive home loss - to leave them looking over their shoulder at the wrong end of League One.

Knights, meanwhile, celebrated a dramatic last gasp win over rivals Yorkshire Carnegie to take another giant step towards cementing their Championship promotion play-offs spot.

A month ago Rovers entertained similar play-off hopes but a run of five league games without a win has seen them slip to 17th in the table, six points clear of the drop zone.

Boss Darren Ferguson said after Saturday’s abject defeat to the Blades that he is confident his side has enough about them to avoid slipping through the trapdoor.

This weekend they aim to turn the tide in another South Yorkshire derby at Barnsley.
