Dearne residents are being offered top tips on how to keep their homes warm this winter as temperatures plummet.

Property developer Taylor Wimpey said it can be tempting to turn up the thermostat but offered eco-friendly and budget-friendly tips to help keep the heat inside your home.

Thick curtains are one of the simplest ways to prevent heat from escaping, while furniture should not be put in front of radiators.

Draughts through the letterbox, keyhole or cat flap can be covered when not in use and covering bare floorboards with a rug or carpet during winter can help with insulation.

If paying for professional insulation is too costly, then householders can buy rolls of DIY insulation that can be rolled out in loft space.

Another handy tip is to place some tin foil on the wall behind your radiator to reflect the heat back into the room.

Anne Bagshaw, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey, said: “With just a few simple steps, homeowners can prevent heat from escaping and save a significant amount of both money and energy. All homes at each of our Rotherham-based developments benefit from a range of fantastic features to keep out the chill this winter, but we hope our additional tips can help all residents in the region, keep the heat despite the plummeting temperatures.”
