Young thespians from schools across South Yorkshire will stage the musical CATS at the Rotherham Civic Theatre next month.
After their sell-out productions of Les Miserables and Grease, youth theatre Steps Productions promise great family entertainment with hit songs including Memory, Mr Mistoffelees and The Rum Tum Tugger.
The CATS story tells of one special night of the year when all Jellicle cats meet at a ball. Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, makes the Jellicle choice and announces which of them will go up to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
This year’s production and activities will cost around £28,000. The group holds constant fund-raising activity with car washes, sponsored events, race nights, fashion shows, garden parties, and spa evenings.
Show week also marks National Volunteer Week 2015 and producer Ash White will recognise everyone involved for their contributions, from the 35-strong mainly teenage cast to the ladies front of house, the chaperones, make-up artists and hair specialists.
Each evening of the production STEPS will hold bucket collections for Bluebell Wood and Rotherham Hospices. The latter is in memory of the late Richard Badger who was a huge support to Steps, stage managing their last two productions.
Ash White said: “Rehearsals are going terrifically! Cats features a 10-piece live band, quality set, colourful costumes created by the team, professional choreography and excellent vocals.”
The show is from June 2 to 6, with performances at 7.15pm. Tickets are priced £12. To book, call 01709 823621 or visit http://www.rotherhamtheatres.co.uk. or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
